Vuse NZ - A beginner’s guide to vaping

If you’re an adult smoker and decide to start vaping, you’re likely to have a lot of questions. Don’t panic! In order to help you vape to quit, the Vuse blog team present our Beginner’s Guide to Vaping.

Before you start

One of the first things to think about as a beginner vaper is which e Liquid flavour to start with. Many smokers opt to start with a Master Blend tobacco flavour, before transitioning to new flavours.

Buying your first vaping device

Vaping can seem more like buying a new piece of technology. Some people are intimidated by the prospect of buying their first device. It can feel like there are a lot of unfamiliar components and terms to deal with, compared to more familiar items like phones or laptops. You could ask friends who are already vapers, but Vuse also has an informative website and a dedicated number you can call to ask for advice: 0800 897 369.

Your first few vapes

For adult smokers the first few puffs of vapour will be a very new experience.

There are two main types of vaping device, ‘direct-to-lung’ (DTL), and ‘mouth-to-lung’ (MTL).

The Vuse ePod 2 and Vuse Go Reload is a MTL devices, which more closely replaces the familiar sensorial experience, whereby the vapour is drawn into the mouth first, before inhaling and exhaling.

The strength and type of nicotine will affect how the vapour hits the throat, so if you find it too strong, you could consider reducing the nicotine strength of your e Liquid or opting for a Nicotine Salt e Liquid instead of a Freebase Nicotine e Liquid. Nicotine as a Freebase is an alkaline, which can provide a harsher throat hit when vapourised, compared to Nicotine Salts. We use Nicotine Salts within all of our e Liquids.

Your first day

One of the main ways in which vaping devices are a new technology is that they are battery operated. The first time you go out with your device you may ask yourself: how long will the battery last? Not least because on the first day you’re not yet accustomed to gauging how much battery life you’ve used. You don’t want to find that it runs out of charge whilst you’re on the move, so it’s a good idea to take a portable charger with you, enabling you to use the device while out and about.

First few days

In the first few days, you’ll start to consider when you want to vape. Many people find that the rhythm of ‘smoking breaks’ still works for them and take breaks in the day. Others prefer to graze, taking occasional vapes throughout the day.

First week

At some point in your first week, you might finish the first batch of e Liquid. If you are using an open system device, changing the e Liquid is a good opportunity to wash out the tank and wipe it down with a paper towel, especially if you are moving to a new flavour, in order to avoid accidentally mixing the flavours.

With the Vuse ePod and Vuse Go Reload closed system, simply click in your new e Liquid Pod. We’ve got multiple flavours for you to try.

First month

If you’re no longer smoking, well done! If vaping hasn’t quite replaced those routines, whether at work or at the pub, perhaps try a new flavour or nicotine strength, but stick with it, and hopefully by the end of your first month, you can call yourself a vaper.
